West Sulawesi - Makassar to Manado 2003

On this trip on board the MV empress we traveled along the wallace line northwards along the west coast of Sulawesi. We discovered the wreck of the Japanese WW2 destroyer "Amagiri" - a famous boat that sank the PT 109 with JF Kennedy on board in April 1942. the wreck had never been discovered, below are the first photos ever taken of the wreck. The site is most interesting from a malacological pojnt of view as it hosts both species, Leporicypraea mappa and geographica. Diving at 40 m on mud bottom during the search for the wreck yielded numerous interesting and partly new species of smaller molluscs.
